Nevada authorized Tesla Robotaxi for up to 5,000 fully autonomous vehicles in Clark County. That is a permit ceiling, not a fleet.

The Nevada Transportation Authority, at its August 20, 2026 general session, unanimously approved autonomous-vehicle-network applications from Tesla Robotaxi, LLC, Waymo LLC, and Aviari Services, LLC. The August 21, 2026 release says the companies may provide paid passenger transportation in fully autonomous vehicles in Clark County, subject to each applicant’s operational design domain and other conditions, under NRS Chapter 706B and NAC Chapter 706B. Tesla’s first-12-month authorization is up to 5,000 fully autonomous vehicles after the permit is issued. Waymo and Aviari are each authorized for up to 1,000. That is a regulatory ceiling. It is not a statement that 5,000 Tesla robotaxis are operating in Las Vegas. Tesla.com does not list Las Vegas or Nevada among the cities where robotaxi rides are available now.

The NTA authorization is a first-year ceiling after the permit is issued, not a count of cars on the road. Commissioners of the Nevada Transportation Authority unanimously approved applications from Tesla Robotaxi, LLC, Waymo LLC, and Aviari Services, LLC to operate as autonomous-vehicle-network companies in Nevada. The applications were considered at the August 20, 2026 general session under NRS Chapter 706B and NAC Chapter 706B. The August 21, 2026 release says the approvals authorize each company to provide paid passenger transportation in fully autonomous vehicles within Clark County, subject to the operational design domain and other conditions approved by the Authority. Under the approved orders, Tesla is authorized for a fleet of up to 5,000 fully autonomous vehicles during the first 12 months following issuance of its permit. Waymo and Aviari are each authorized for up to 1,000 fully autonomous vehicles during their respective first 12 months.

Permit first, then operations. The orders provide that the permits will be issued upon verification by NTA staff that the respective applicants have satisfied the conditions established by the Authority. Operations must commence within 120 days after the permits are issued, not after the August 20 vote. The companies may not provide transportation services until applicable requirements have been satisfied, including vehicle inspection documentation, required insurance, rates submitted to the NTA before offering transportation to the public, customer-facing applications for regulatory review, accessibility, crash reporting pursuant to NRS 706B.260, and inspection, maintenance, and repair records subject to NRS 706B.220. Commissioners also required a 24-hour emergency contact for first responders in the service area. Changes to an approved operational design domain, geofence, or operating parameters require prior approval from the Authority. The approved geographic area includes Harry Reid International Airport; companies will not be allowed to service the airport without first obtaining the necessary authorization from the Clark County Department of Aviation.

What Tesla.com says is live is a different object from the Nevada ceiling. tesla.com/robotaxi, checked at 2026-08-27 1:35 a.m. ET, says autonomous Robotaxi rides are currently being offered in Miami, Orlando, and Tampa, Florida, and Austin, Dallas, and Houston, Texas, starting with Model Y. The same page says Cybercab, Tesla’s purpose-built fully autonomous vehicle, will offer rides in your area in the future. Las Vegas is not listed among the cities where robotaxi rides are available now. This page does not treat that company page as a Nevada fleet count, a Clark County start date, or a Cybercab schedule.

What this page does not take from other coverage stays off the table.
