Supermicro Lifts Preliminary Q1 Revenue to $18.5B–$19.5B as AI Platform Demand Beats Its Own Guidance
The server maker also raised its preliminary gross-margin range on customer and product mix — but the figures are unaudited, carry no earnings-per-share detail, and stay subject to revision until full results on Nov. 3.

Supermicro's preliminary Q1 fiscal 2027 business update of Oct. 20, 2026 (BusinessWire; also furnished as Form 8-K Item 2.02, Exhibit 99.1) estimated revenue of $18.5bn-$19.5bn versus guidance of $14.5bn-$15.5bn, primarily on increased demand for AI platforms, and gross margin of 12.0%-12.5% versus guidance of 10.4%-10.8%, primarily on customer and product mix; the company stated the figures are preliminary and unaudited, have not been reviewed by its auditor, and are subject to revision, with full Q1 results on Nov. 3, 2026. Reuters on Oct. 20, 2026 reported the LSEG consensus average estimate of $15.23bn, an analysts' gross-margin estimate of 10.15%, shares up 11.3% in after-hours trading, and Dell and HPE gains of 3.5%-4.9%. Midpoint comparisons (about +27% versus the guidance midpoint and about +25% versus consensus) are TickerGrove calculations from those ranges.
As of Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026.
Supermicro did not trim expectations on Tuesday. It blew past them — and the numbers are still only preliminary.
Super Micro Computer raised its preliminary first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue estimate on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to between $18.5 billion and $19.5 billion, well above its prior guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion, for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026. The company attributed the upside primarily to increased demand for AI platforms. The update, issued as a preliminary business update and furnished with the company's quarterly filing package, replaces the outlook investors were working from — it is not a final results release, and Supermicro was explicit that the figures remain unaudited and subject to revision.
A raise measured against its own guidance
The cleanest way to size the surprise is against the company's own numbers. The new revenue midpoint of $19.0 billion sits about 27% above the $15.0 billion midpoint of the prior guidance range — a $4 billion upward revision at the midpoint, in a single preliminary update. The range also clears the Street: Reuters reported that analysts' average estimate was $15.23 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG, which puts the new midpoint roughly 25% above consensus. Preliminary ranges are not final results, but a gap of this size against both guidance and consensus is not rounding — it says the quarter's AI-platform shipments ran far ahead of what the company itself had planned for.
Margins moved the right way, too
Revenue was only half the update. Gross margins are estimated at 12.0% to 12.5%, versus guidance of 10.4% to 10.8%, primarily due to customer and product mix. The margin midpoint, 12.25%, is about 1.65 percentage points above the guidance midpoint, and Reuters noted the range also sits above analysts' estimate of 10.15%. The combination matters more than either line alone: server hardware is a business where surging volume often arrives at thinner margins, as larger customers negotiate harder. Supermicro is instead telling investors that the bigger quarter came with a richer mix — more revenue, at a better margin rate, in the same preliminary breath.
The market's verdict, in one window
Investors did not wait for the final numbers. Reuters reported that shares rose 11.3% in after-hours trading on Tuesday, and that rivals Dell and HPE gained between 3.5% and 4.9% while Nvidia was up 1.5%. The read-through lifted the wider AI-server group, and the timing sharpened the move: Reuters noted the update landed days after shares of companies exposed to the AI data-center buildout had fallen, when CoreWeave's stock and bond slide and the prospect of higher interest rates raised questions about how quickly heavily indebted operators can generate returns. Against that backdrop, a demand-driven raise of this size read as a direct counter-signal.
Preliminary means preliminary
The discipline in this story is in the label. Supermicro said the unaudited figures are based on preliminary results and management's estimates, are inherently uncertain, and are subject to revision as the company completes its closing procedures and finalises its first-quarter statements; actual results may differ materially. The company also disclosed that its independent registered public accounting firm has not audited, reviewed or performed any procedures on the preliminary revenue and gross-margin figures. Just as important is what the update did not contain: no preliminary earnings-per-share or net-income figures were disclosed, and no segment or customer detail beyond AI-platform demand and mix. The bottom line of the quarter is still unknown.
What Nov. 3 has to answer
The full first-quarter results arrive on the conference call scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET. That call has to confirm the final revenue and margin figures against these preliminary ranges, supply the missing earnings detail, and explain how much of the demand came from the largest AI customers — the company's own risk disclosures note that bigger customers and larger opportunities can make its customer base more concentrated and its sales less predictable. It will also be the first full results outing since the chief financial officer change Reuters reported last week. Until then, the honest summary is narrow and strong: a preliminary, unaudited quarter that ran far ahead of the company's own plan, with the proof scheduled for Nov. 3.
