Supermicro estimates first-quarter revenue of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion, above its own guidance

Gross margin is estimated at 12.0% to 12.5% against guidance of 10.4% to 10.8%, and even the bottom of the revenue range is 19.35% above the top of the outlook the company gave in August.

Super Micro Computer told investors on October 20 that it expects revenue of $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion for the quarter ended September 30, against its own guidance of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion, with gross margin of 12.0% to 12.5% against 10.4% to 10.8%. The San Jose server maker filed the numbers as a preliminary business update rather than full results, and set its earnings call for November 3.

The update was filed as an exhibit to a current report and covers the fiscal first quarter that ended September 30, 2026. Supermicro put revenue at $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion and gross margin at 12.0% to 12.5%, both ranges published before the company has closed its books.

A revenue range that begins above the old ceiling

The comparison that matters is with the company's own August outlook, not with a consensus figure the filing does not supply. On August 11 Supermicro said it expected net sales of $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion for the quarter; the new estimate clears that ceiling at its floor, with the low end 19.35% above the $15.5 billion top of the guidance range. The year-earlier first quarter produced $5.0 billion of net sales, so the new range is 270.0% to 290.0% higher, and the June quarter's $11.1 billion implies a sequential increase of 66.67% to 75.68%. A single quarter at the bottom of the range would equal 47.31% of the $39.1 billion Supermicro booked in all of fiscal 2026. Management ascribed the lift to "primarily due to increased demand for AI platforms", and the document carries no order or backlog figure to test that against.

Margins rebound from last year but retreat from June

A gross margin of 12.0% to 12.5% is well above the 9.3% Supermicro reported in the year-earlier quarter and above the 10.4% to 10.8% it had guided to, which the release attributes to "primarily due to customer and product mix". It is also well below the 17.5% reported for the June quarter, a margin that had already jumped from 9.9% in the March quarter and sat far above the 10.8% recorded for fiscal 2026 as a whole. The update offers no bridge between those rates, so whether the June quarter reflected a one-off mix of large enterprise orders or a durable shift is left open. Revenue scale and margin rate are moving in opposite directions across the two periods.

The profit line is missing until November 3

The document carries no net income, no earnings per share, no cash flow statement and no balance sheet. Supermicro labels the figures as resting on "preliminary results and management's estimates" that are "inherently uncertain and subject to revision", and warns that actual results "may differ materially from these preliminary unaudited financial results". That gap matters for a company that ended June with $8.7 billion of bank debt and convertible notes against $7.5 billion of cash, and that used $918 million of cash in operations in the year-earlier first quarter before generating $747 million in the June quarter.

The November 3 print is the next dated check

Supermicro scheduled its fiscal first-quarter call for November 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. ET, with a webcast on its investor site and a replay to follow. That release should carry the income statement, the cash flow statement and a fresh view of the $65.0 billion to $72.0 billion fiscal 2027 revenue range the company set in August. Until then, the only verified facts are two ranges and the reasons management gave for them. The release also repeats standing risk language on customer concentration, average selling prices and tariffs without updating any of it.
