MANLatest quote

ManpowerGroup reported third-quarter results on Thursday that matched expectations almost exactly — adjusted earnings of $1.01 a share on revenue of $4.84 billion — and used the same morning to name its next chief executive.

The reported figures were revenues of $4.84 billion, up 4.4% from $4.63 billion a year earlier, net earnings of $34.1 million and diluted earnings of $0.71 a share, up 84.4% from $0.38. The quarter absorbed restructuring costs, strategic transformation program costs, a business sale adjustment and Argentina hyperinflationary non-cash currency translation losses that together reduced earnings per share by $0.30; excluding them, adjusted earnings were $1.01 a share, up 24% in constant currency. Against expectations, the print was in line on both lines: AlphaStreet's preview put the consensus at $1.01 a share on revenue of $4.85 billion, and MarketBeat put the revenue consensus at $4.8519 billion — so earnings matched exactly and revenue landed a touch light.

The Americas carried the growth, Europe did not

Americas revenue rose 13.5% to $1.25 billion, with the United States up 5.5% to $728.8 million. Southern Europe, the largest segment, rose just 1.0% to $2.23 billion as France fell 3.5% to $1.13 billion. Northern Europe revenue rose 5.4% to $860.6 million and its operating unit result swung to a $7.5 million profit from a $14.9 million loss a year earlier. Asia Pacific and the Middle East fell 1.1% to $514.9 million. Gross profit was essentially flat at $767.3 million, down 0.2%, but selling and administrative expenses fell 2.5% to $685.0 million, so operating profit rose 23.7% to $82.3 million — the quarter's profit growth came from cost discipline, not margin expansion.

A fifth CEO in almost 80 years

In a separate release the same morning, the board elected Becky Frankiewicz — currently President and Chief Strategy Officer — chief executive effective January 1, 2027. She will also join the board and become the fifth CEO in the company's almost 80-year history. Jonas Prising, chief executive since 2014, transitions to Executive Chair. Frankiewicz has led the company's commercial strategy and the integration of AI and agentic AI across the organization, and the company framed the move as long-term succession planning rather than a change of direction.

Guidance, cash and the nine-month swing

For the fourth quarter of 2026, the company guided diluted earnings per share to between $1.03 and $1.13, with a 44% effective tax rate. For the nine months, revenue rose 7.3% to $14.21 billion and net earnings were $90.1 million, or $1.89 a diluted share, against a net loss of $43.5 million, or $0.93 a share, a year earlier, when results included an $88.7 million impairment; adjusted nine-month earnings were $2.51 a share, up 21% in constant currency. Cash stood at $233.1 million at September 30, 2026, down from $871.0 million at December 31, 2025, after $585.9 million of long-term debt repayments during the nine months — the balance sheet was deliberately delevered through the year.

What to watch from here

Prising called 2026 an inflection point for the business, said the Manpower brand gained share in the United States, and noted that U.S. Experis crossed over to growth during the quarter. Early secondary reports of the share reaction conflicted with one another, so the cleaner tests are operational: whether fourth-quarter earnings land inside the $1.03 to $1.13 guide, whether France stops shrinking, whether Northern Europe holds its swing to profit, and how the Frankiewicz handover reads when she takes the chair's office on January 1. An in-line quarter plus an orderly succession is a steadiness story; the guidance is where it has to prove itself.
