Sagimet doses first AURORA patient, but its October filing carries no results

The exhibit is an October investor deck: $257.6 million of cash at June 30 plus a $115 million September offering fund operations to mid-2029, and the 800-patient AURORA Phase 3 has begun dosing with topline data due in 2H 2027.

Sagimet Biosciences (Nasdaq: SGMT) furnished an investor presentation rather than an income statement with its October 22 current report. Exhibit 99.1 reports the first patient dosed in the AURORA Phase 3 acne trial, a $257.6 million cash balance as of June 30, and a runway the company now extends to mid-2029 after a $115 million September offering. The exhibit contains no revenue, net loss or per-share figure for the third quarter.

A slide deck arrives where quarterly results would sit

The current report carries Item 7.01, Regulation FD Disclosure, and Item 9.01, Financial Statements and Exhibits. Its exhibit is titled “Targeting Metabolic Dysfunction with Novel Therapeutics October 2026” and consists of leadership, pipeline, clinical-data and intellectual-property slides; no statement of operations is attached. The most recent income statement in Sagimet's filed exhibits is the second-quarter release of August 11, which reported a $14.0 million net loss and $11.5 million of research and development expense for the three months ended June 30. No 8-K filed between August 11 and October 22 reports Item 2.02, the results-of-operations item, according to the company's filing list. That second-quarter statement shows operating expenses and other income only, with no revenue line.

AURORA begins dosing at 800 patients with topline set for 2H 2027

The US trial randomizes patients 2:1, with 533 assigned to denifanstat 50 mg and 267 to placebo across 800 patients, including 450 aged 12 to 17. Co-primary endpoints at week 12 are treatment success on the investigator global assessment plus the absolute change in inflammatory and non-inflammatory lesion counts, followed by a 40-week open-label extension. Sagimet received IND clearance and an FDA “Study May Proceed” letter in July 2026 and dosed its first patient in October 2026; the deck schedules topline results for 2H 2027.

China Phase 3 data carry the efficacy argument

The efficacy case rests on ASC40-303, a 480-patient Phase 3 trial run in China by Ascletis, Sagimet's licensee for Greater China. In the deck's week-12 table, IGA treatment success is 33.2 for denifanstat against 14.6 for placebo — percentages, an 18.6-point gap — and the change in total lesion count was −57.4 against −35.4, both percent changes from baseline, for a placebo-adjusted −22.0 points. Tolerability sat close by category: dry eye in 10.9% of treated patients versus 8.0% of placebo patients, though a footnote to the same slide puts placebo dry-eye treatment-emergent adverse events at 9.2%; dry skin ran 6.3% versus 2.9%, with all denifanstat-related adverse events mild or moderate and no related serious events. By week 52 of the extension, total lesion counts were approximately 75% below the ASC40-303 baseline, and inflammatory counts approximately 80% below it. AURORA is the US test of the same molecule, and its endpoints are written to support a registrational filing.

Cash, a September offering, and a runway that moved out

Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities stood at $257.6 million on June 30, a figure the deck and the August release state identically. The deck adds the proceeds of a $115 million underwritten offering completed in September 2026 and concludes that the combined position is “expected to fund current operations through mid-2029”. The August release, written before that offering, said the June 30 balance alone would fund operations through 2028. The expense base behind the arithmetic is small but rising: second-quarter research and development spending of $11.5 million was 59.1% above the $7.2 million of a year earlier, and the $14.0 million net loss was 34.3% wider than the $10.4 million reported in the prior-year quarter. Both rates come from the release's reported thousands: $11.54 million against $7.25 million, and $13.95 million against $10.39 million. An April 2026 offering added $175.0 million of gross proceeds.

TVB-3567 steps toward Phase 2 while MASH waits for outside money

TVB-3567, the follow-on FASN inhibitor, has finished dosing in the single-ascending, multiple-ascending and food-effect parts of its first-in-human study, was generally well tolerated, and has Phase 2 doses identified; Sagimet expects a Phase 2 proof-of-concept trial in acne to start before the end of 2026. MASH carries a different constraint. The deck notes that the Phase 2b trial met both primary endpoints, that a Phase 1 pharmacokinetic study of denifanstat with resmetirom finished in December 2025, and that a patent on the combination granted in the third quarter runs to 2044, then states that “Further MASH development to be undertaken only upon securing non-dilutive funding”.

Dates that now carry the story

Three dates matter more than any quarterly print. Before the end of 2026, Sagimet plans to begin TVB-3567's Phase 2 trial. In 2H 2027, AURORA topline data are due, the readout the runway was sized around. And the China NMPA is reviewing the denifanstat acne NDA that Ascletis filed and that was accepted in December 2025, a decision that belongs to the partner rather than to Sagimet. Until a filed income statement arrives, the company's cash position will keep dating to June 30.
