Wednesday’s GDP second estimate can still move Q2; 1.5% is the advance vintage

BEA prints the second estimate, and Q2 corporate profits, at 8:30 a.m. EDT on August 26. July personal income is a separate release at the same clock.

U.S. BEA news schedule (page modified 08-24-2026) lists GDP (Second Estimate) and Corporate Profits, 2nd Quarter 2026, at 8:30 a.m. on August 26. The July 30 advance names the same next-release line at 8:30 a.m. EDT. https://www.bea.gov/news/schedule https://www.bea.gov/news/2026/gdp-advance-estimate-2nd-quarter-2026

What “Source checked” means

The last official reading of second-quarter growth is still the July 30 advance: real GDP up 1.5% at an annual rate after 2.1% in the first quarter. Wednesday, August 26, at 8:30 a.m. EDT, BEA is scheduled to replace that vintage with the second estimate and, for the first time this quarter, corporate profits.

What changed

Nothing in the GDP accounts has printed since July 30. What changed is the calendar: the next vintage is two mornings away, and it is a different product from the advance. The 1.5% figure stays the advance number until Wednesday’s release supersedes it.

BEA’s public schedule, checked August 24, still lists two News releases for Wednesday, August 26, at 8:30 a.m.: GDP (Second Estimate) and Corporate Profits for the second quarter of 2026, and Personal Income and Outlays for July. Those are two rows, not one table. The GDP advance published July 30 already pointed at the same 8:30 a.m. EDT GDP slot.

The number on the books is still that advance. Real GDP rose 1.5% at an annual rate in 2026:Q2 after 2.1% in 2026:Q1, in the same July 30 document. Private demand, measured as real final sales to private domestic purchasers, rose 3.9%. Current-dollar GDP rose 7.9%. The quarterly PCE price index in that vintage is 5.1% at an annual rate. Those lines are labeled advance for a reason. They move if Wednesday’s vintage says they move.

Why it matters: the second estimate is also the first look at corporate profits for the quarter. The July 30 product did not carry them. What I’m watching is whether 1.5% holds and what the profits line shows — not a guess at either print. July personal income, if it arrives on schedule, is monthly income, spending, and PCE prices. It is not the quarterly GDP arithmetic, and it is not a CPI figure.

Why BEA publishes GDP more than once

BEA does not lock a quarter on the first try. The advance estimate is the first look. The second estimate, due Wednesday, uses more source data for the same quarter. A later third estimate is already on the September 30 calendar. Until Wednesday prints, 1.5% is the advance, not a rewritten history.

What I’m watching

Two objects, one clock. The GDP second estimate can revise real GDP, private final sales, and the quarterly price indexes, and it is the first profits vintage for 2026:Q2. July Personal Income and Outlays prints at the same 8:30 a.m. EDT and is a monthly accounts release. July PCE does not belong in the 5.1% quarterly GDP price line.

What we do not know

Wednesday’s second-estimate GDP figure is not public. Neither is a 2026:Q2 profits print, a revision from 1.5%, or any July monthly income or PCE number. This page does not print a consensus, a market reaction, or a CPI figure.

Corrections

We do not silently rewrite a published line. A correction is a new labeled piece, not an invisible edit.
