BPOPLatest quote

Popular, Inc.'s board approved a quarterly cash dividend of $0.90 a share on the common stock, the same rate the company declared in August 2026, payable January 4, 2027 to shareholders of record at the close of business on November 13, 2026.

The declaration reached investors in a short exhibit attached to a Form 8-K: the payout itself, a description of the company, and investor and media contacts. Nothing else came with it.

A flat payout and a January payment date

The prior declaration, dated August 20, 2026, also set the quarterly dividend at $0.90 a share, with payment on October 1, 2026 to holders of record on September 10, 2026. Read side by side, the two notices put the sequential change at zero, and the board repeated the rate rather than moving it. What did move is the calendar. Because the fourth-quarter payment settles on January 4, the cash leaves the company in a new year, and the gap between the two payment dates runs roughly three months across the year-end. At the declared rate, four quarterly payments add up to $3.60 a share annualized, arithmetic that assumes the board repeats $0.90 each quarter rather than a company forecast.

A dividend notice without an earnings read

This exhibit is a payout announcement, and it should be read as one. It carries no net income, no earnings per share, no net interest margin, no capital ratio and no book value, so it cannot establish whether the dividend is covered by current profits, what share of earnings it represents, or how it sits against the bank's regulatory capital. It also carries no guidance, no share-repurchase authorization and no reference to prior-year payouts. The August notice is the only comparison document in hand, and it reaches back one quarter, not a full year. A reader looking for a year-over-year dividend comparison will not find one in either exhibit, and this article does not manufacture one.

A Puerto Rico franchise paying in dollars

The release describes Popular as the "leading financial institution by both assets and deposits in Puerto Rico" and places it inside the 50 largest U.S. bank holding companies measured by assets. Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, founded in 1893, is the principal subsidiary, providing retail, mortgage and commercial banking in Puerto Rico and the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, plus auto and equipment leasing and financing on the island. Broker-dealer and insurance services run through specialized subsidiaries. On the mainland, Popular Bank, a New York-chartered bank, keeps branches in New York, New Jersey and Florida. All of that is standing background the company attaches to its dividend notices; none of it is new disclosure, and none of it speaks to whether the payout is affordable.

The dates that follow

Two dates are fixed by the declaration: November 13, 2026, when the shareholder register closes, and January 4, 2027, when the cash is due. A buyer of the shares after the record date does not collect this payment, which is the practical consequence of the schedule rather than a signal about the company. The next checkpoints are the board's following quarterly declaration and whatever separate filing Popular makes for its quarterly results. Neither is part of this exhibit, and no date for either appears in it.
