What “Source checked” means

OpenAI on September 10, 2026 introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a ChatGPT Work offering that pairs its newest frontier model, GPT-6 Astra, with built-in premium financial datasets aimed first at investment bankers and equity researchers. Morgan Stanley and Evercore served as design partners, OpenAI said in its launch post and Help Center materials.

Built for bankers and equity researchers

OpenAI framed ChatGPT for Financial Services as a way for investment-banking and equity-research teams to research companies, analyze earnings, compare peers, test assumptions, and produce editable models, research notes, and pitchbooks. The product sits on ChatGPT Enterprise controls and is described as a separate ChatGPT plan for financial institutions.

In a briefing covered by CNBC, OpenAI product vice president Nick Turley said the company is teaching ChatGPT to research like an analyst and to back up its conclusions with citations. A live demonstration walked through analysis of a potential merger target and generation of a PowerPoint deck from a bank’s preformatted style guide. Administrators can publish firm Excel, Word, and PowerPoint templates so outputs follow house formats.

Design partners Morgan Stanley and Evercore

OpenAI said the product was shaped with Morgan Stanley and Evercore as design partners. Both firms supplied quotes on OpenAI’s launch post describing collaboration on research, analysis, and client advice workflows. Design-partner status is not the same as a disclosed roster of paying customers: Turley told CNBC there was strong demand for the offering but declined to name banks that have signed on.

The early focus is investment banking and equity research. OpenAI said partner work will inform post-training, product improvements, and later expansion into other financial-services categories. Reuters similarly reported plans for broader data coverage and a push beyond the initial banker and researcher audience.

Premium data, citations, and optional connections

OpenAI said selected premium datasets are indexed and hosted on its infrastructure so teams can start without negotiating separate data contracts for those included sources. The company’s Help Center lists included coverage that includes public-company SEC filings; Quartr earnings transcripts, presentations, and international filings; Daloopa financial statements and selected metrics (with a 24-hour delay and a 3,000-datapoint limit per user per month); Fiscal.ai fundamentals and ratios; PitchBook Essentials private-company profiles and recent financing activity; Crunchbase private-company and funding data; LSEG News for U.S.-based financial professionals; and U.S. equity pricing via Financial Modeling Prep / Nasdaq feeds delayed by 15 minutes.

OpenAI and Reuters also describe optional connections for firms that already hold provider subscriptions, including pathways involving FactSet, S&P Global, Preqin, and Datasite, plus broader work on shared sign-in and entitlements with providers such as S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva, and Moody’s. OpenAI’s blog cites a connector ecosystem of more than 50 integrations. Included datasets provide selected coverage that may differ from each provider’s full product, and availability is subject to change.

Granular citations are positioned as a core control: users are meant to trace figures and claims to specific tables and passages before using outputs in client materials. OpenAI’s Help Center states that ChatGPT does not constitute financial or investment advice and that teams should review outputs against supporting sources.

Enterprise controls and how firms get access

ChatGPT for Financial Services builds on ChatGPT Enterprise security features OpenAI lists as including SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning, and role-based access controls. The company says firm business data is not used to train OpenAI models by default, is encrypted at rest and in transit, and can be retained under admin-configured policies. Compliance teams can export supported workspace logs through OpenAI’s compliance tooling into existing audit workflows. Workspace owners manage Financial Services permissions in admin settings after account setup. The Help Center notes the plan applies to an entire workspace and that standard Enterprise seats cannot be mixed with Financial Services seats in one workspace.

Access is limited to eligible financial institutions. OpenAI directs interested firms to contact sales or an existing account team. Pricing, seat minimums, and detailed eligibility criteria are not published on the launch materials reviewed for this article.

What the launch leaves open

- Public seat pricing, contract minimums, and revenue terms are not disclosed (sales / account-team path only). - OpenAI has not published a roster of paying bank customers beyond naming Morgan Stanley and Evercore as design partners. - Detailed eligibility criteria, geographic limits, and the timeline for expansion beyond investment banking and equity research are not fixed in the launch materials reviewed here.
