LBRTLatest quote

Liberty Energy Inc. reported a third-quarter 2026 net loss of $39 million, or $0.24 a diluted share, as a $62.89 million loss on investments overwhelmed an operating profit, and revenue rose 26% from a year earlier to $1.2 billion.

Operations were profitable; the investment line was not

Liberty earned $19.3 million at the operating line in the third quarter, against an operating loss of $2.42 million a year earlier and operating income of $12.72 million in the second quarter. Revenue of $1.2 billion compared with $947.4 million in the third quarter of 2025, and costs of services rose to $995.05 million from $769.76 million.

The sign change came below operations: a $62.89 million loss on investments, net, replaced a $68.35 million gain in the prior-year quarter, producing a pre-tax loss of $49.49 million and a net loss of $39.06 million. The release's reconciliation starts from that $39.06 million reported net loss, removes the $62.89 million investment loss, subtracts a $215,000 credit for transaction and other costs that had benefited reported results, and then subtracts $13.86 million of tax effect, arriving at Adjusted Net Income of $9.76 million, or $0.06 per diluted share, against an adjusted net loss of $9.54 million, or $0.06 a share, a year earlier. Nine-month net income fell to $26.62 million from $134.18 million on the same swing.

Capital spending runs far ahead of adjusted profit

Capital expenditures were $621.93 million, up 180.8% from $221.48 million in the second quarter and from $113.03 million a year earlier; nine-month spending reached $976.84 million against $367.96 million. That spending came with a sharply lower cash balance: cash and cash equivalents fell to $118.97 million at September 30 from $555 million at June 30, 2026, and total liquidity fell to approximately $669 million from approximately $1.0 billion, according to the two releases. Long-term debt was $1.28 billion at September 30 versus $241.51 million at December 31, 2025, an increase the release attributes primarily to senior convertible notes issued in the first quarter; the second-quarter release already put total debt at approximately $1.3 billion at the end of June.

The prior-quarter figures come from Liberty's second-quarter earnings release, filed with the SEC on July 22, 2026, which reported Adjusted EBITDA of $151.15 million.

A 1.2 GW AI power agreement and an 11% dividend increase

Liberty Power Innovations signed a strategic development agreement with "a leading frontier AI lab and a dedicated infrastructure platform" covering 1.2 GW of integrated power services at data center campuses, and the release says the agreement "includes a significant prepayment of capacity fees". The first energy service agreement, for approximately 500 megawatts, is targeted for December 2026. Ron Gusek, the chief executive, said: "The agreement also establishes a phased energization schedule from Q4 2027 through Q1 2029 and includes the substantive commercial terms for the additional long-term ESAs."

Liberty paid $0.09 a share, about $15 million, in dividends during the quarter and declared $0.10 a share payable December 18, 2026 to holders of record December 4. That is an 11% increase; Gusek said: "Earlier this week we announced an 11% increase in our quarterly cash dividend, reflecting confidence in our strategy and a continued commitment to delivering long-term shareholder value."

Service pricing improves as fourth-quarter direction stays qualitative

Adjusted EBITDA was $142 million, 11% above the $128 million reported a year earlier and 6% below the $151.15 million of the second quarter. Gusek tied the result to "strong operational execution and modest price increases" while citing "drilling-related delays and cost inflation headwinds", and said: "Record natural gas substitution of over 60% of the total fuel consumed by our fleets provided annualized fuel savings of over $1 billion for our customers."

For the current quarter the release offers direction rather than numbers: "Looking forward, we expect fourth quarter weather and holiday seasonality to be partially offset by continued strength in demand, including activity deferred from the third quarter."

Where the reported number is most fragile

The release carries no revenue or earnings guidance and no cash-flow statement, so operating cash flow and free cash flow cannot be computed from the exhibit; capital expenditures are disclosed on a net basis, including investing cash flows for property and equipment. The investment line is the volatile piece, swinging from a $68.35 million gain to a $62.89 million loss in a year, and nine-month net income of $26.62 million against $134.18 million in 2025 shows how much of the reported result depends on those marks rather than on completions activity.

Dated checkpoints after the filing

Liberty hosts its third-quarter call on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern. The first energy service agreement is targeted for December 2026, the higher dividend is payable December 18, and the data center capacity is scheduled to be energized in phases from the fourth quarter of 2027 through the first quarter of 2029.
