Diluted earnings of $1.14 a share rose 11% from a year earlier and the margin widened 8 basis points to 3.58%, but bond losses climbed to $213.9 million and cut tangible common equity to 10.11% of tangible assets.

Lakeland Financial Corporation's third-quarter 2026 earnings release, filed as Exhibit 99.1 to a Form 8-K on October 26, 2026, including the financial highlights table and the non-GAAP reconciliation; the EDGAR filing index confirms the filing carried Item 2.02 results of operations.
Third quarter and first nine months of 2026, ended September 30, 2026, as reported in the company's Form 8-K Exhibit 99.1 filed October 26, 2026.
Lakeland Financial Corporation reported record third-quarter 2026 net income of $28.9 million, 9% above the $26.4 million it earned a year earlier, as a wider net interest margin and 8% loan growth carried the quarter. Diluted earnings per share of $1.14 rose 11% from $1.03, and total revenue increased 6% to $73.0 million. Sequentially the step was far smaller: net income rose $417,000 from $28.4 million and earnings per share rose one cent from $1.13.
The record quarter came from the balance sheet rather than from fees. Net interest income rose $4.6 million, or 8%, from a year earlier to $60.7 million, while noninterest income fell 5% from a year earlier and noninterest expense rose 3% from a year earlier to $36.1 million.
A wider margin, funded by cheaper deposits
Net interest income, the company's largest revenue line, reached $60.7 million. The margin did the work. Lakeland's net interest margin widened 8 basis points from a year earlier to 3.58%. The release attributes the widening to a reduction in deposit pricing that outpaced the decline in earning asset yields: funding costs fell 24 basis points from a year earlier to 2.13%, while earning-asset yields fell 16 basis points from a year earlier to 5.71%.
"Strong loan growth and healthy net interest margin expansion were reflected in the quality of our earnings performance in the quarter," Chief Executive David M. Findlay said in the release.
Loans ended the quarter at $5.68 billion, up $431.4 million, or 8%, from a year earlier and $100.4 million above June 30. Commercial and industrial loans supplied the largest slice of the annual increase, $187.4 million, or 12%. Findlay said commercial loan originations of roughly $525.0 million outran roughly $443.0 million of paydowns for the fourth quarter in a row.
Deposits totaled $6.29 billion, up 4% year over year. Core deposits, which exclude brokered funding, were $6.05 billion and 96% of the total. Chief Financial Officer Lisa M. O'Neill said an Indianapolis deposit strategy brought in $106.1 million during the quarter, of which $83.2 million was new money to Lake City Bank.
One credit explains the charge-offs while the watch list grows
The provision for credit losses fell to $1.2 million from $2.0 million a year earlier and $1.7 million in the second quarter. Net charge-offs moved the other way: $3.0 million, against $384,000 a year earlier and $24,000 in the linked quarter, equal to 0.21% of average loans annualized. The release attributes most of that to a $2.8 million partial charge-off on a commercial credit that had been fully reserved in earlier periods.
The headline credit ratios improved anyway. Nonperforming loans fell to 0.32% of loans from 0.36%, and the allowance covered 1.21% of loans, down from 1.30%. The measure that deteriorated is the watch list. Individually analyzed and watch list loans reached $202.0 million, up 28% from $157.2 million a year earlier and 2% from June 30, equal to 3.56% of total loans. About $15.6 million of downgrades drove the linked-quarter increase.
Record earnings, a smaller equity base
Total equity was $732.09 million at September 30, down from $773.37 million at June 30 despite $28.9 million of quarterly profit. The cause sits in accumulated other comprehensive income: unrealized losses on available-for-sale securities rose to $213.9 million from $140.9 million, which the release ties to an 85 basis point rise in the 10-year Treasury yield during the quarter.
That mark moved the capital ratios readers watch. Tangible common equity, a non-GAAP measure, was 10.11% of tangible assets, from 10.63% at June 30 and 10.79% a year earlier. Excluding the bond mark, the adjusted ratio, also non-GAAP, was 12.32%, up from 12.14%. Total capital of 15.56% remains well above the 10.00% threshold the release calls well capitalized. Lakeland repurchased 41,550 shares at a weighted average of $58.45, spending $2.4 million, against tangible book value of $29.14 a share.
The November 5 dividend and what the filing leaves open
Directors declared a $0.52 quarterly dividend, payable November 5 to holders of record October 25, 4% above the $0.50 paid a year earlier. For the nine months, net income was $83.8 million, or $3.31 a diluted share, up 14% and 16% respectively, and the payout ratio fell to 47.1% from 52.6%.
Two dated items follow the quarter. Capital ratios in the release are marked preliminary until the bank files its FR Y-9C report, and $14.6 million remains under a share repurchase authorization of $60.0 million that expires April 30, 2027. The release sets no date for fourth-quarter results, offers no earnings guidance and makes no comparison with analyst estimates, so nothing here speaks to whether the quarter beat or missed consensus.
