Flutter to cut up to 1,400 UK and Ireland jobs with an $80 million to $90 million charge
Up to 1,400 of its 9,000 UK and Ireland staff would go, against $80 million to $90 million of fourth-quarter charges. The duty rise is expected to cost $540 million of 2027 adjusted EBITDA, $201 million of which it expects to offset.

Based on Flutter's Form 8-K and Exhibit 99.1 filed October 20, 2026, with the second-quarter 2026 earnings release for comparison.
Flutter Entertainment plc committed on October 20, 2026 to a restructuring of its UK and Ireland business that could remove up to 1,400 jobs, and put the pre-tax cost at $80 million to $90 million, before unquantified non-cash stock-compensation charges, all of it in the fourth quarter. The filing is a cost disclosure under Item 2.05 and Regulation FD rather than a quarterly earnings report, and carries no third-quarter revenue or profit figures.
A 19-point iGaming duty rise lands first
The plan answers two UK tax changes that the release sets out in its footnotes. In April 2026, the iGaming duty rate went from 21 percent to 40 percent, a 19 percentage point increase. For sports betting excluding horseracing, the rate lifts by 10 percentage points to 25 percent in April 2027.
Flutter puts the 2027 adjusted EBITDA impact of the iGaming changes at $540 million, which it expects to offset with $201 million of first-order mitigation. The release says the restructuring forms part of that already-guided first-order cost mitigation, so its savings sit inside the $201 million rather than on top of it, and the $339 million left uncovered is what remains after the plan. Mitigation covers 37.22% of the stated hit. Its second-quarter release had put the 2026 iGaming tax impact at $320 million, a partial-year figure because the increase took effect in April 2026; the $540 million covers a full year.
Severance against a 9,000-person payroll
Flutter employs 28,500 people globally, including 9,000 in the UK and Ireland business. The 1,400 maximum is 15.56% of that business's headcount and 4.91% of the global total. The mid-point of the charge range, $85 million, is about 1.96% of the $4.33 billion of revenue Flutter reported for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
The roles go in Leeds and Dublin and among UK and Ireland staff at the group's Porto and Cluj-Napoca hubs. Flutter said the plans are subject to consultation and that it began notifying affected employees on October 20, 2026.
Kevin Harrington, chief executive of Flutter UK & Ireland, said the increase "has fundamentally changed the economic model of the regulated betting and gaming industry in the UK while helping to fuel the unlicensed, unregulated market." He added that Flutter "cannot fully absorb a rise of this magnitude without reducing our fixed cost base and therefore must restructure our business so that we can best position ourselves for the future."
A charge already inside the 2026 cost guidance
The 8-K says the costs were captured within guidance Flutter issued with its second-quarter earnings update. That update, filed on August 5, 2026, raised transaction, restructuring and integration cost guidance for 2026 to about $500 million, an increase of $200 million on its expectations at the fourth quarter of 2025.
Flutter expects to substantially complete the plan by the end of 2026, with the charges booked in the fourth quarter and subject to legal and employee notice and consultation requirements. It also expects non-cash charges for stock-based compensation but says they cannot be reasonably estimated.
The second quarter was weak. Revenue rose 3% from a year earlier to $4.33 billion, but adjusted EBITDA fell 45% to $508 million and Flutter reported a net loss of $296 million. UK and Ireland revenue still grew 4% from a year earlier in the second quarter, the release said, after the iGaming increase took effect in April.
Silence on savings, and a November earnings test
The filing quantifies what the restructuring costs and not what it saves. Flutter describes the plan as supporting "material second order mitigation benefits" but attaches no dollar figure to them, and gives no split of the 1,400 roles by site or function. The outcome of the consultation is also unknown, and the non-cash stock compensation charge has no estimate.
No third-quarter revenue, profit or player number appears in the document. Flutter said in August that it would give more detail on the second phase of its cost programme at its third-quarter results in November, without naming a date. The restructuring charge itself is booked in the fourth quarter, and the sports-betting duty rise does not take effect until April 2027. Until then, the hard numbers on the restructuring are the charge range and the job ceiling.
