Aixtron orders beat estimates on AI data-center laser demand, and product mix lifts profit

Aixtron shares rose about 5.7% in Frankfurt on Friday after the German semiconductor-equipment maker said preliminary third-quarter orders significantly beat market expectations on demand for laser tools used in AI data-center communications, while operating profit also beat expectations thanks to a favorable product mix.

Orders well above the Street's midpoint

Aixtron said preliminary third-quarter order intake was about €275 million, compared with €124.0 million a year earlier. That was significantly above the €214.6 million median in the company's own consensus of analyst estimates, and also well above the €214.5 million of orders booked in the second quarter.

The Herzogenrath-based maker of semiconductor deposition equipment released the figures after the Frankfurt close on Thursday, Oct. 15 (18:03 CET/CEST), in a statement tagged as EQS News ID 2416828. Preliminary revenue was about €184 million, up from €119.6 million a year earlier and within the company's previously stated quarterly forecast range of €180 million plus or minus €20 million.

Product mix lifts margins

Operating profitability also beat market expectations, Aixtron said, mainly because of a favorable product mix. Preliminary gross profit was about €87 million, for a gross margin of about 48%, compared with €46.4 million and 39% in the year-earlier quarter. Preliminary operating profit (EBIT) was about €57 million, with an EBIT margin of about 31%, versus €15.4 million and 13% a year earlier.

Fiscal-year 2026 guidance was left unchanged. The company plans to publish its full third-quarter group statement, including nine-month results, on Oct. 29.

AI data-center lasers

Chief Executive Felix Grawert tied the order strength to demand for equipment used in laser applications for AI data-center communications. "Our order intake continues to be driven by strong demand for equipment for laser applications in AI data center communications," he said in the statement. "At the same time, a favorable product mix contributed to profitability significantly above market expectations. The high order intake clearly strengthens our business prospects for 2027."

JPMorgan, quoted by Investing.com, said that despite wider concerns about the AI trade, it expected Aixtron to outperform on the pre-announcement because the news should drive upgrades to near- and medium-term estimates.

Why the beat matters now

Order intake is a leading signal for Aixtron's future revenue because deposition tools ship after customers place equipment orders. Clearing €275 million of bookings in a single quarter — after €214.5 million in the second quarter — points to sustained demand into 2027. The company did not change its 2026 guidance, so the near-term story is the order beat and the margin mix rather than a formal raise.

The figures are still preliminary and approximate. Aixtron did not publish a product-line split beyond Grawert's comment on laser equipment for AI data-center communications, and it did not restate the numeric ranges inside its unchanged full-year outlook.

Shares rise in Frankfurt

Aixtron shares were at €32.75 on Xetra late Friday afternoon Frankfurt time, up 5.7% from Thursday's close of €30.98, according to Yahoo Finance data near the regular session close. The stock traded as high as €34.10 and as low as €32.05 in the session. Investing.com earlier reported that shares jumped more than 5% on the news.

Aixtron SE (FSE: AIXA) supplies deposition tools used to make compound and organic semiconductor devices for lasers, LEDs, power electronics and related applications. It is listed on Germany's MDAX and TecDAX indexes.

German chip-equipment maker Aixtron's orders beat forecasts on AI laser demand

Aixtron builds machines that deposit thin layers of semiconductor materials. On Thursday evening it said customers ordered about €275 million of equipment in July through September, well above the €214.6 million analysts in its own poll had expected and more than double the year-earlier total. Profit margins also came in stronger than the market expected, which Aixtron linked to a favorable mix of products. The company's chief executive said demand remains strong for tools used to make lasers for AI data-center communications. Aixtron left its full-year 2026 outlook unchanged and will publish complete results on Oct. 29. Its shares rose about 5.7% in Frankfurt on Friday.

What is still unknown

The third-quarter figures are preliminary and approximate. Aixtron did not break out order intake or profit by product line beyond the CEO's comment on laser equipment for AI data-center communications. Full results, including nine-month figures, are due Oct. 29. Fiscal-year 2026 guidance was unchanged, but the statement did not restate the numeric ranges.
